The first event of the cross party committee on drugs focused on Dual Diagnosis took place in Dail Eireann. The session was chaired by Carol Moore of Dual Diagnosis Ireland.
Dr Sean Foy, Clinical Psychologist explained dual diagnosis. The problem is created by the design of health care systems. (Click here for presentation)
Ms Barbara Condron, CEO described how FAST looked at Dual Diagnosis. The CARE project had an independent evaluation which showed it worked. Sadly, the project has finished as funding was stopped. Click here for presentation
Dr Marie Oppenhem, Consultant Psychiatrist and co-founder of Carmha explained Carmha’s approach. A community and trauma responsive service which ensures nobody is turned away. Click here for more details.
Yvonne Moroney gave a really inspiring and moving talk. She described how Carmha helped her become a trusted community leader who now helps others to recover. Previously her community were afraid of her and would not even say hello to her in the street.
Dr William Flannery, Consultant Psychiatrist explained the work of the HSE Dual Diagnosis Clinical Programme. The working group have not met since November 2018. Click here for more details.
